Illustration of the "Cigno" cordless phone

Technical illustration,
13.8" x 19.7" (35 x 50 cm), airbrushed acrylics on illustration board
Italtel required these two illustrations to present their new cordless phone, which had some interesting features, such as the pivot handset support, which couldn't be summoned in a single view.
The illustrations were performed after detailed layouts, necessary to define clearly the airbrushing steps, and thus the masking sequences; hard masking was kept to a minimum, and the wide curved surface was free hand airbrushed within a simple boundary mask: such a procedure is impossible without a careful planning.
Retouching and lettering are in undiluted acrylics.

Layout # 1, markers and mixed media
The main layout was kept at a higher contrast level, that was slightly flattened in final illustration.
Sometimes, an accurate layout may be considered an illustration in itself, and sometimes advanced layout techniques can be used for final illustrations.
Airbrushing a technical illustration requires an accurate planning; as airbrush works begins, the final result shall be clear in the illustrator's mind.
